Superb little gadgets these pi computers thinks me. Everything has worked swimmingly since - the storage drive has been updatable on my network and Plex Media Server has worked fine. As a complete novice from a standing start and with some help from some online friends I 'with heart in my mouth' worked up how to get a Rasp pi B+ up and running and also got it acccessible from within windows via VNC and also got it accessing a separate storage disk via Plex media server.
